Welcome to Olna Gazur
Home of the Kalmuck Mongolian Buddhist Center

12 Kalmuk Rd., Howell, NJ USA

This site is intended to be a resource for the members of Tashi Lhunpo Buddhist Temple, in particular, and for the Kalmyk people in general.

Olna Gazur can be translated to English in several slightly different ways, but it means, approximately, "The People's Gathering Place".

A few years after the first Kalmyks came to the United States, a group of about 20 families bought a piece of land in Howell, NJ, on which they all intended to build homes. They called it Olna Gazur. A Buddhist Temple, and 5 houses were built before legal problems ended construction. Today the temple is in active use, there is a small social hall, and living quarters for the monks.

To be continued...
